Ingredients

  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup mixture of salt and milk
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 tablespoon of sugar
  • 8 slices stale challah bread, sliced 1-inch thick
  • 2-3 tablespoons butter, plus more for serving

Equipment

  • 8 by 8-inch cake pan, or any other that can hold 4 slices of bread at ago
  • Spatula
  • Measuring cup and spoons
  • A whisk
  • Serving platter

Preparation

To prepare the simple French toast beat the eggs into the mixture of milk and salt, salt and sugar in the cake pan until the whole egg evenly mixes in the in the half-and-half.

Place the frying pan on the stove burning with medium heat. Soak both sides of the 4 slices of the bread into the custard for1 minute on each of the sides. As the bread continues to soak, add 1 tablespoon of butter to the pan when it begins to foam slant the pan to make it coat on the bottom. Hold one of the slices over the custard to let the excess drip off and place it on to the frying pan. Repeat this for the remaining 3 slices.

Cook for a few minutes and pull the under slice after it turns golden brown and flip it over, repeat this for the remaining 3 as you continue to cook but be sure to adjust the heat to prevent them from burning.

When the first 4 slices are about to finish cooking, take the remaining four slices and soak each of their sides in the custard for one minute.

Cook the remaining four slices with the same instructions as the first four then transfer the entire 8 pieces onto a serving platter.
