a) MEDICINAL TREATMENT

Do not use these medications without a doctor’s advice or prescription. Doctors usually prescribe a hives treatment based on the hives symptoms.

  1. ANTIHISTAMINES

They are the most frequently prescribed cure for hives treatment. They eliminate or block the histamines, helping to alleviate hives symptoms caused by allergies.

  1. IMMUNE SYSTEM SUPPRESSANTS

Immune system suppressing drugs such as cyclosporine, tacrolimus and mycophenolate are prescribed as hives treatment for severe cases where the body may not respond to other treatments. They may be unpleasant as they can lead to nauseas, headaches and a possible reduction in the kidney’s functionality.

  1. ASTHMA MEDICATIONS

These medications have been proven as a reliable treatment for hives. They have no side effects but may be costly. Commonly prescribed by doctors are Montelukast along with an antihistamine for treatment of hives.

  1. ANTI-INFLAMMATORY DRUGS

Anti-inflammatory drugs and creams may be used for alleviating physical hives symptoms such as swellings and itchiness.

  1. CORTICOSTEROIDS

These may be used when other forms of hives treatment have failed.  A strong oral corticosteroid or corticosteroids for topical application may be prescribed. These drugs suppress the immune system and so must be administered by strictly following the doctor’s instructions for use.

b) HOME TREATMENTS

A home treatment for hives may be applied in acute or physical cases as well as some chronic issues.

  1. COLD COMPRESS

Apply a cold compress made from a towel and cold water to reduce or eliminate hives on face.

  1. WEAR LOOSE CLOTHING

This is recommended for pressure urticaria or constriction hives which is caused by tight clothing.

  1. IDENTIFY, AVOID OR GET RID ALLERGENS

It is prudent to get rid of allergens or avoid them when taking a hives treatment. Also, simplest cure for hives by allergen is to avoid them. You may do several observational tests with the help of an allergist to diagnose which allergens are responsible.

  1. USE SUNSCREEN OR PROTECTOR

Using a sun screen helps prevent and reduce the severity of sunray-induced hives which in turn speeds up hives treatment.

  1. BAKING SODA

It is an anti-inflammatory substance which causes a reduction in itching and inflammation. You may eradicate hives on face by doing topical applications.Add to bathing water or make a paste and smear it over affected regions of the face.

  1. APPLE CIDER VINEGAR

Apple cider is good cure for hives due to its antihistamine properties. Topical applications can be done for physical hives. It may also be ingested for treatment of chronic or internal hives.

  1. OTHERS

Other home treatments include the use of aloe Vera, oat meal, ginger, turmeric, nettle, mint and basil.
