Anxiety is a natural phenomenon. However, too much of it could turn into an abnormality known as anxiety disorders. In order to prevent these abnormalities, we need to know the causes so as to prevent them as much as possible. Let us take a look at six causes of anxiety below:
WHAT CAUSES ANXIETY?
Anxiety could be caused by various natural factors ranging from eating habits to sleeping patterns as well as wrong social practices. These causes may be environmental, genetic, medical factors, brain chemistry etc. Let us go straight to some of these causes:
Taking in the wrong type and quantity of food are among causes of anxiety. Not necessarily the food but the volume or regularity of its intake. Some foods that are known to cause anxiety are:
Caffeine is a stimulant which can trigger insomnia. It is also guilty of causing heart palpitations.
Sugar serves as an adrenal stimulant. Too much intake of it could lead to nervous disorders. Too little an amount of it could also lead to low sugar levels or Hypoglycemia which is among the causes of anxiety.
Soda contains a high amount of sugar and caffeine. Aside these, it also depletes the necessary vitamins and minerals from your meals which are supposed to help your nervous system function properly.
a) LATE SLEEPING HABITS:
Bad sleeping habits are among the various anxiety causes. Sleeping too late and waking up late makes people wake up feeling anxious and desperate to get set for work or school. Developing this habit can create an anxiety disorder.
b) THINKING AND WORRYING:
A lot of people have become prone to anxiety because of too much thinking and worrying. They are awake early in the morning and late at night, wondering what to do about a situation they find themselves in. The matter gets worse when it is not a problem they can solve personally. It is among the numerous anxiety causes.
c) INSUFFICIENT REST:
People who are always actively involved in working and busy schedules are prone to anxiety disorders. The lack of sufficient rest affects the normal functioning of the central nervous system. An abnormal nervous system is among the key causes of anxiety.
d) DRUG ABUSE:
People may get intoxicated from the use of illegal and unprescribed drugs such as cocaine and marijuana which could cause this problem. Also, a halt to the use of certain addictive drugs like heroine is among anxiety causes.
3. ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS
Environmental factors are also proven causes of anxiety. Some of these factors include;
a) Stress in the school environment
b) Stress from work environment
c) Tensed atmospheres at home or in an interview room.
d) Insufficient oxygen, especially in places of high latitudes
e) A natural disaster accompanied stress etc.
4. MEDICAL FACTORS
Anxiety causes include medical factors. These factors are;
a) Stress emanating from a severe illness
b) Side effects of certain hospital drugs
c) Emphysema, also known as pulmonary embolism, which causes the patient to struggle for oxygen.
A good number or scientific researches have proven that genetics is what causes anxiety in some people. There are trends of anxiety in some families. These genetic predispositions in some families are among the causes.
6. BRAIN CHEMSITRY
Brain chemistry is also factor. People with high levels of certain neurotransmitters in the brain are likely to suffer anxiety disorders. Improper functioning of neurotransmitters in the brain may cause a break in the brain’s communication which causes absurd reactions among people.
